GFF raises stakes with $12M prize package for Elite League Season 8

The Guyana Football Federation (GFF) has announced a $12 million prize package for Season Eight of the Elite League, which is scheduled to kick off on August 29, with defending champions Slingerz Football Club (FC) among 10 clubs competing for the title.
Slingerz will be joined by Guyana Police Force FC, Guyana Defence Force FC, Western Tigers FC, Santos FC, Monedderlust FC, Ann’s Grove United, Den Amstel FC, Fruta Conquerors FC, and newly promoted Camptown FC.
The champions will receive $4 million, while the second-, third- and fourth-place finishers will collect $3 million, $2 million, and $1 million, respectively. The fifth-place team will earn $500,000, with the remaining five clubs receiving $300,000 each.
Season Eight will be contested over two rounds, and is expected to provide approximately six months of top-level domestic football. The league remains the country’s main platform for identifying and developing players for Guyana’s national teams.

Several changes have also been introduced following consultations between the GFF and the participating clubs. Teams will now be allowed to register as many as 35 players, up from 30 last season, while match-day squads have been increased from 20 to 23.
The federation is also reviewing the commercial and infrastructural requirements for clubs interested in staging matches at their home venues. Any venue selected must first satisfy the required competition standards.
The updated regulations were developed using feedback from the clubs and lessons from Season Seven, with the GFF aiming to improve the playing environment and strengthen the competition.
The federation has encouraged supporters to attend matches and back their respective clubs throughout the season.
