GGDMA donates over $10M to vulnerable groups amid COVID-19

The Guyana Gold and Diamond Miners Association (GGDMA), within the last two months, has provided over $10 million worth in donations and other relief efforts to various communities and organisations throughout the length and breadth of Guyana.

The GGDMA relief effort began on March 31, 2020, with the establishment of a GGDMA COVID-19 Relief Account at Demerara Bank Ltd.
The GGDMA stated that 25 persons/companies would have contributed to its COVID-19 Relief Fund and expressed heartfelt gratitude to these donors.
Meanwhile, GGDMA reminded miners to adhere to preventative measures to ensure the safety and health of workers and the communities in which they work. The Association cited that it is currently working closely with the Pan American Health Organisation (PAHO) to develop protocols and guidelines for mining operations and miners to follow during this pandemic.
So far, Bartica, Aranka and Isseneru, Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni); Mahdia and Campbelltown Village, Region Eight (Potaro-Sipuruni); Port Kaituma Hospital and Police, Moruca, Mathews Ridge Hospital, Region One (Barima-Waini); Suddie Hospital, Kurutuku Village in middle Cuyuni, MNR, Dharm Shala, the Palms and Amerindian Hostel are the beneficiaries of relief items.
