– John Fernandes Ltd, Go-Invest, Qualfon respond generously
A series of corporate sponsors have come on board to support national Paralympic champion Class 10, Gibran Sarfaraz, in his quest to participate in the Para Copa Costa Rica Table Tennis Championships, scheduled for December 8-13 in Costa Rica.
The companies that have responded favourably are John Fernandes Limited; Go-Invest, through CEO Mr. Peter Ramsaroop; and Qualfon Incorporated. Presenting the cheque on behalf of John Fernandes Limited, Company Secretary Mr. Zach Gonsalves, former national cadet and junior table tennis player and 2002 Pam American cadet silver medalist, indicated that the John Fernandes corporate group, as part of its corporate social responsibility and support for the development of athletes and sports personalities, is happy and proud to support Gibran financially for this championship, and extends him best of luck in his pursuits.
Go-Invest Chief Executive Officer Dr Peter Ramsaroop, himself a former President of the GTTA, said he is very familiar with the sacrifices, commitment and exploits of Gibran as a player, and is happy to invest in his quest to participate in those games.
Gibran, a high-level Paralympic athlete who has represented Guyana at the Pan American Paralympic Games in Lima, Peru in 2019, USA Paralympic Open and other key Paralympic championships, was unable to attend any key events in the last 18 months, owing to the COVID-19 pandemic. Gibran is keen on retaining his ranking position and qualifying for major Olympic cycle games and in bringing honours to Guyana. He outlined that he is working hard in his preparation for these games.
Competitions have been restarted globally in the sport, along with the growth of Paralympic events in international competition and Olympic cycle games, in addition to world ranking becoming a major factor in determining qualification for key events given the Covid-19 pandemic. It has become critical that our association is able to have our players such as Gibran participate in key competitions and training camps as a means of having our players continue to gain the requisite exposure and preparation, in order to position them to gain world ranking points so as to maximise our chances of qualification and success at key international competitions and games, while improving our trajectory at key and major international
games such as the Commonwealth Games South American, Games Central America and Caribbean Games on the horizon for 2022, his participation in these games takes on an even more critical importance.
General Secretary of the GTTA, Linden Johnson, has expressed gratitude on behalf of GTTA and Gibran to John Fernandes Limited, GO-Invest’s Peter Ramsaroop, CEO GO-Invest; and Qualfon Inc For coming on board at this critical time with their monetary contribution and support. He outlined that it is indeed invaluable at this time.
“It is recognised that only through corporate support from companies such as yours that have demonstrated support for the development of sports and sports personalities, which we can make such ventures a reality, and for this we are truly grateful,” he said.
P& P Insurance Brokers also this week made a presentation to Gibran’s quest. The GTTA is still seeking corporate sponsors to meet the budgetary requirement to ensure Mr. Gibran Sarfaraz participates in these key championships.
