The contest, billed for October 1 and 2 at the National Gymnasium, Mandela Avenue will see teams vying for top honours in the sport.

To date, four teams have already signaled their participation including Linden Vibes, Georgetown Unstoppable and Kwakwani Magic while others are still to join in the history making event. It is to be noted that the tournament is open to both juniors and seniors in female basketball.

Gibson, who is also the co-ordinator of the event, indicated that it is her love for the sport that has led her to develop something of this caliber and encouraged teams to show their support.

“Currently I am sponsoring the tournament alone, but if there is anyone or business who is willing to come on board it would be of good help” the police officer said, adding “the reason I am doing this is to enhance female basketball” noting that “nothing has been said about female basketball but hopefully the administration could see this as a good and help us in whatever way they can.”

The top team will cart off with $50,000 and a trophy while the runner up team will take home $35,000. Third place will also receive a cash prize of $25,000 and the most valuable player recipient will be gifted $10,000.

The action gets underway at 16:00h on both days.
