In light of COVID-19 this year, Giftland Mall on Wednesday rewarded frontline workers attached to the Sophia Health Centre with hampers.
At a brief handing over ceremony at Giftland Mall, Marketing Manager Lorenzo Persaud told the media that a decision was taken to reward frontline workers, taking into consideration the COVID-19 pandemic.
He highlighted the sacrifices the health workers would have made during this difficult period.
“We were looking to donate to other organisations, and coincidentally the Sophia Health Centre reached out to us and immediately we wanted to assist them…the smallest things such as basic necessities were hard to get and in recognition of the frontline workers, we wanted to assist them,” Persaud noted.
Persaud added that the Sophia community is close to Roy Beepat’s heart hence he is always eager to lend a helping hand. He added that some 20 frontline workers will benefit from this initiative.
Persaud further noted that the establishment hopes to make more donations to other organisations through its 12 months of charity initiative aimed at putting smiles on the faces of the less fortunate.
Meanwhile, Head of the Sophia Health Centre, Dr Asha Kissoon said the workers have been working very hard during the year, especially during the pandemic, adding that she believes that they deserve to be treated during the festive season.
She further expressed gratitude to Giftland Mall on behalf of the workers at the health centre, for their generous donations.
