The three-day Guyana International Petroleum Business Summit (GIPEX 2018) conference will be opening today at the Marriott Hotel.
In a release, the organisers had assured that opportunities for investment and capacity building in Guyana’s oil and gas sector would be provided. Among the items up for discussion during the three-day summit, which ends on Friday, was a presentation on building a successful local content policy – a outline which sets out its plan for ensuring that Guyanese develop socio and economic capacity from oil.
The organisation promises that the summit will not only showcase Guyana as a vibrant investment destination in oil, gas and energy related fields but also highlight opportunities for partnerships with local and regional entities that provide services in the oil and gas sector. There will be two workshops that will form part of the final day of the summit which will covers topics focusing on “Doing Business in the Oil and Gas Sector in Guyana” and “Doing Business in Oil Field Services, Supply Chain and Facilities Management”.
The participating entities in this week’s summit include oil giant ExxonMobil, Repsol Exploracion SA, HESS, CNOOC Nexen, CGX Energy Inc, Schlumberger, JHI, GBTI, GTT, Baker Hughes, Siemens, ECO Atlantic, Tiger Tanks, Oceaneering, DAI, EDO, Clariant, TechnipFMC, Scotiabank, Macorp, Bristow, VSH, ERM, and Laparkan.
The Natural Resources Ministry said that it was pleased to support the event given the significant oil finds in just over two years.
