Home Sports GKF/WAKO Guyana to introduce kick-boxing in Guyana
ꟷ Athletes given chance to compete at higher level
There is another avenue opening up to give Guyanese martial artists opportunity to represent Guyana at the regional and international levels.
That avenue is the Guyana Kickboxing Federation/World Association of Kickboxing Organisation (WAKO) Guyana, which is affiliated to the World Association of Kickboxing Organization.
The Guyana Kickboxing Federation (GKF) is the governing body for all styles of kickboxing in Guyana, and intends to bring about the abovestated objective through a number of programmes, including seminars on refereeing, coaching, Gup promotion and Dan promotion for instructors of affiliated clubs.
WAKO representative for Guyana, Marcello Small, has said it is paramount that athletes are given the opportunity to compete at the highest level. Athletes can compete in creative forms, musical forms, fighting- point sparring, light contact and kick light. The purpose of this new organisation is to sensitize parents and children about the sport; its origin, technique, types and rules; and the many benefits attending a kickboxing athlete.
Marcello Small, a New Amsterdam resident, is the Senior Instructor and President of White Tiger Martial Arts Academy. His credentials include Taekwondo 2nd Dan, Wushu, Nature fist kung fu [White Sash], Linjitsu [system] Karate 4th Dan and Shin Kai Do 2nd Dan.
In fact, Small has been trained by the late Grandmaster Dr. Stephen Monasingh, and it is a known fact that he has been practising martial arts for more than 25 years.
Small is also President of the Guyana Wrestling Association, which was founded on 25th September 2017 and is affiliated to the United World Wrestling and is recognized by our National Olympic Committee, the Guyana Olympic Association.
Practitioners of any form of Karate or Taekwondo can seek affiliation with the Guyana Kickboxing Federation by contacting telephone number 673-9221 or email [email protected] or by visiting the website www.guyanakickboxingfederation.webs.com which will soon be launched.
