Guyana Telephone and Telegraph on Tuesday earmarked Seon Glasgow Jnr as their future Amazon Warriors Player and concretised this by pledging to make a handsome investment in the teenager’s future.
This was disclosed at the signature sponsorship ceremony with Guyana Amazon Warriors, held at the National Stadium in Providence.
According to the company’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Justin Nedd, GTT will immediately provide full sponsorship Glasgow’s participation in the Sir Garfield Sobers Schools Cricket Tournament in Barbados in July. Glasgow has been selected to be part of the Electra Sports Academy that will be representing Guyana at the tournament.
Nedd disclosed that GTT will be working closely with the future star. “We will also pursue Seon’s training with the Guyana Amazon Warriors team here in July in preparation for the CPL [Caribbean Premier League] Games in August.”
Speaking with Guyana Times Sports the 15 year-old Glasgow contended that the investment will help in achieving his dreams.
“I think it is a good investment in me, it will mould me as a cricketer. It will inspire me to become a better person and better sportsman so I can do well in my cricket career,” the young cricketer declared.
The Bush Lot Secondary School student hopes he can have more National duties and even play for a West Indies Youth team in the next three years once he continues to train diligently.
Commenting on being able to practice with some of the world’s best players, the all-rounder claimed that it will be a dream come through to rub shoulders with the likes of Afghanistan leg-spinner Rashid Khan and Berbicians Shimron Hetmyer and Assad Fudadin.
The Warriors have been one of the most consistent teams in the tournament reaching three of the four finals but failed to secure to the coveted trophy.
Given those performances and the current batch of players, the Blairmont Cricket Club player feels the Warriors can go “all the way”.
“I think this year they have a very good and strong team. The players are capable of making big scores, the bowlers can take wickets and if they come together as a team they can win the tournament”.
The Guyana Amazon Warriors 2017 squad includes: Martin Guptill, Rayad Emrit, Sohail Tanvir, Chadwick Walton, Christopher Lynn, Rashid Khan, Jason Mohammed, Steven Taylor, Veerasammy Permaul, Roshon Primus, Gajanand Singh, Assad Fudadin, Steven Jacobs, Keon Joseph, Steven Katwaroo, Shimron Hetmyer and Muhammad Ali Khan.
The league will run from August 4 to September 9 and the Warriors will have four home matches during the period of August 17 to 22 at the National Stadium, Providence.
