GNBS closes all offices until May 3

COVID-19 outbreak

…free calibration of clinical thermometers until May 30

The Guyana National Bureau of Standards (GNBS) has announced that it will be closing all its offices effective immediately. The GNBS noted that this became imperative as Guyana and the rest of the world tries to come to grips with the impact of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
GNBS in a statement said its offices would not be reopened until May 3, 2020, and all its officers would be working from their homes.
“The general public, stakeholders and customers can still reach out to us during this period via our 24/7 support service by WhatsApp messages and calls on (592) 692-GNBS (4627), our social media handles @GNBSGY, e-mail: [email protected] and our website: www.gnbsgy.org. For Importers, our officers are currently handling releases of imports for warehouses through the ASYCUDA operating system remotely via online means,” the statement informed.
The Bureau is also encouraging importers to make their payment for product releases via the use of Mobile Money Guyana (MMG) or a direct deposit to their Republic Bank Account No 96295-6887467. If the importer uses direct deposit as a form of payment, they would be required to scan and e-mail proof of deposit to [email protected] or WhatsApp (592) 692-GNBS(4627).
Field operations for verification of all weighing and measuring devices used in trade will be postponed during this period. However, a point to note is that this is usually done twice per year in the months of January-February and November-December. Other routine activities will be placed on hold until further notice.
However, verification of measurement of crude oil on board the FPSO continues.
The general public can still review standards that are available for comments at www.gnbsgy.org (Standards for Public Comments) and submit these comments to the GNBS via the Comments Sheets on our website or by email: [email protected] before the specified deadline.
Persons interested in making purchases of electronic standards or through the GNBS ISO webstore can do so via requesting by e-mail to [email protected] or WhatsApp. Payments can be made through direct deposits to the GNBS’s Republic Bank account and the same procedure of submitting deposit slips applies.
Calibrations of all industrial equipment both onsite and offsite will be placed on hold except for clinical thermometers used in the health sector (digital, liquid-in-glass and infrared) with ranges of 35-40 degrees Celsius. GNBS announced that they would be calibrating those thermometers free of cost until May 30. However, persons would have to make the requests by sending a WhatsApp message or email [email protected].
All training programmes have thus far been postponed until further notice and updates will be provided in the coming months. Additionally, all external audits have been rescheduled to a later date.
For all other and general inquires – 24/7 support service – WhatsApp messages and calls on (592) 692-GNBS (4627) and various social media platforms are to be used.
