― but union still in dire need of 0,000 to offset expenses
The Guyana Olympic Association (GOA) has come to the rescue of the Guyana Rugby Football Union (GRFU) as they made a donation of $1.2M on Saturday to help offset the expenses of participating in the Rugby Americas North (RAN) Sevens Men’s and Women’s regional titles in Trinidad and Tobago from November 12 -13.
The timely gesture was made by GOA Vice-President Noel Adonis to secretary of the GRFU, Petal Grant, as Adonis wished the male and female team success in their quests to capture their eighth and fourth regional Sevens titles respectively.
President of the GRFU Peter Green was extremely grateful for the donation but worriedly expressed that the GRFU was still in the red by approximately half of a million dollars and called on assistance of the Government to assist the team.
The male ruggers are scheduled to depart on Tuesday while the women’s outfit will leave on Thursday to battle for championship honours at the St Mary’s College Sports Grounds in Port of Spain.
The men’s team are group in pool D alongside Jamaica, Turks & Caicos and Martinque while the females are aligned with Mexico, Bahamas, Dominican Republic and Trinidad and Tobago.
