GOA Olympic Day 10k to run today

Olympic Day is celebrated around the world on June 23 every year. The first World Olympic Day was celebrated in 1948.
In 1978, the celebration of Olympic Day was included in the Olympic Charter, encouraging all National Olympic Committees (NOCs) to organise activities which promote the Olympic Movement.  In 1987, the NOCs of 45 countries participated in the first Olympic Day 10k Run.
This year, the Guyana Olympic Association (GOA), in collaboration with the Athletics Association of Guyana, will host its annual 10k Team Run and Fun Walk-Jog-Run on Sunday, June 25, (today) starting at 06:00h.  Prizes will be awarded for the team event.  Teams must comprise four male and two female runners.
This event starts at the Thomas Lands YMCA, proceeds north on Camp Street to Carifesta Avenue, east on Carifesta Avenue and the Rupert Craig Highway to Liliendaal (where marshals will indicate the turning point), west to Vlissengen Road, south on Vlissengen Road to Thomas Lands, and back to the YMCA for the finish.
Organisations and members of the public are all invited to participate, the GOA said in a press release.
“Registration forms can be obtained at ‘Olympic House’, 76 High Street, Kingston, or just come on Sunday in your walking or running shoes. The first 400 persons to arrive  on Sunday morning will receive an Olympic Day 2017 T-shirt,” the GOA has promised.
