GOA-Paraguay Olympic Committee MoU to benefit 22 athletes, 8 coaches
The Executive Committee of the Guyana Olympic Association (GOA) recently disclosed that activation of a recent historic and ground breaking Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the Guyana Olympic Association and the Paraguay Olympic Committee has already begun to bear fruit.
The agreement establishes a comprehensive framework for collaboration in high-performance sports, human resource development, technical expertise-sharing and capacity building, structured training opportunities for athletes and coaches in high performance environments, and initiatives to enhance physical activity opportunities for athletes in both countries. It leverages available resources for mutual benefit, paving the way for long-term cooperation in sports development, athlete training, and knowledge exchange.
Activation of this MoU will pave the way for twenty-two junior elite athletes and eight coaches from the sports disciplines of Cycling, Squash, 3×3 Basketball, Beach Volleyball, Athletics, Archery and Swimming to access opportunity to refine their skills in world-class facilities with technical coaching expertise and high- level athletes.
The high-performance training schedule includes specific dates between the period March 20th and July 19th 2025 for the training stints allocated for the respective sports selected.
The GOA recently inked an MoU with the Paraguay Olympic Association
As part of this programme, the training camps will be hosted at the Paraguayan Olympic Committee’s facilities with a focus on exposing participating athletes and coaches to training in high performance environments, fostering excellence in sports.
The comprehensive support from this programme includes: Provision of air transportation to Paraguay; internal transportation to training venues; accommodation at the Olympic Park Hotel; full board (breakfast, lunch, afternoon snack, and dinner); access to high-performance training facilities; use of the Olympic Gymnasium and the SND High-Performance Gym; support of the sports science and medical department, and structured training and collaboration with international coaches and other top level athletes.
All of the above would be fully covered by the Paraguay Olympic Committee and the Government of Paraguay, but participants would be selected by their respective national associations and federations to benefit from this high-performance training opportunity.
To ensure inclusivity and equal representation, the Executive Committee of the GOA is urging the national federations identified for the sports programme to select participants with gender parity in mind where possible.
This initiative reflects a strategic investment in the prospects of Guyana’s future athlete across several sports disciplines. It forms a shared commitment to developing athletic talent and strengthening regional cooperation in sports, thereby planting the seeds for the future growth of our sports ecosystem among the two nations.
Moreover, the MOU aligns with, and forms part of, the Guyana Olympic Association’s strategic plan in exploring, negotiating and developing key and synergistic partnerships aimed at providing more opportunities for our athletes and coaching talents to learn and benefit from advanced training methodologies, with a view of building their capacities, realizing their potential, and improving their performance and representation of Guyana.
The Executive Committee of the Guyana Olympic Association is looking forward to seeing Guyana’s athletes and coaches maximize this opportunity with a view to elevating their performance on the international stage.
