The Guyana Amateur Powerlifting Federation (GAPLF) has been granted full affiliate status at the Guyana Olympic Association (GOA), with the Association throwing its support behind the Federation’s national team.
At one of the more recent Council Meetings of the GOA, it was unanimously agreed that after re-submission of complete documents for full membership and affiliation, the GAPLF has full affiliate status. The Executive Committee of the GOA recognised that the GAPLF, under the auspices of the International Powerlifting Federation (IPF), has nominated a national team to participate in the Annual World Classic Open Powerlifting Championships slated for June 11-June 18, 2023 in Malta.
The team comprise Carlos Peterson-Griffith and Gordon Spencer, a Category II Referee, who will also function as Manager/Coach.
According to GAPLF President Franklin Wilson, “The Federation is confident that the nominated athlete and support personnel will capably represent the Federation and country and their participation at this championship is another positive step in further strengthening Guyana’s distinguished presence on the international powerlifting scene.”
At the handing-over ceremony at Olympic House on Tuesday, June 6, 2023, GOA President Godfrey Munroe said that it gave the Association great pleasure to lend support to the Federation’s members.
