GOBSA to host 10th Independence Track and Field Classic on May 23

The Guyana Overseas Based Sports Association (GOBSA) will stage the 10th Anniversary Independence Track and Field Classic on Saturday, May 23, at the National Track and Field Centre, Leonora, West Coast Demerara, with several of Guyana’s top athletes expected to compete.

The meet, which is scheduled to begin at 10:00h, is being organised in collaboration with the Athletics Association of Guyana (AAG) and the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport. Organisers are anticipating a large turnout as the event celebrates a decade of competition and overseas-based support for local athletics development.
According to information released ahead of the event, the meet will feature a packed day of track and field competition, bringing together speed, talent and national pride at one of Guyana’s premier athletics venues.
In addition to the competition on the track, patrons will also have the opportunity to win several prizes, including cash rewards, televisions, tablets, cellular phones and scholarships.
Admission to the event is set at $1000.
