
A 59-year-old gold miner, Stanton Isaacs of Church Street, West Bank Demerara, was sentenced to one year of imprisonment and fined $30,000 after pleading guilty to a charge of possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking on Wednesday.
Isaacs was arrested on March 3 at the Itaballi Police Checkpoint along the Lower Mazaruni River. He appeared the following day before Magistrate Teriq Mohamed via Zoom at the Bartica Magistrate’s Court, where the charge was read to him.
Following his guilty plea, Magistrate Mohamed handed down the one-year imprisonment sentence and imposed the $30,000 fine.
