Gold miner remanded on narcotics charge

A pork-knocker of Kumukumu village on the Essequibo coast appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan on Thursday, and was remanded to prison after pleading not guilty to a charge of cannabis possession.

It is alleged that 22-year-old Abdool Adil Salim on January 17, 2017, was stopped and searched by Police officials at 70km Barama Road on the Essequibo Coast, leading to the discovery of 149 grams of cannabis. Salim denied the charge read to him by the Chief Magistrate and entered a not-guilty plea.narcotics

The defendant was remanded to prison and the matter was transferred to the Bartica Magistrate’s Court, where the miner will appear on February 9, 2017.
