Police in Regional Division Two are investigating a murder following the death of a 25-year-old of Wakapau, Lower Pomeroon River, Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam).
Dead is Nicholas Fredericks. Reports are that the incident occurred on Monday at about 02:30h at Wakapau Village. According to police, Fredericks, a gold miner, had attended a community event on Sunday night into Monday morning where an altercation reportedly took place. Shortly afterward, he was found lying on the ground with what appeared to be multiple stab wounds.
Fredericks was transported to the Wakapau Health Centre, where a doctor on duty pronounced him dead on arrival. His body has since been taken to the Suddie Public Hospital Mortuary pending a post-mortem examination.
An 18-year-old gold miner has been arrested and is currently assisting police with the investigation.
