Golden Blue Echo disregards stable orders to win again
The big dark spotted Golden Blue Echo disregarded the orders of coming from the Nand Persaud Stables to stride past the pole inches ahead of Spit Fire to win the feature event at the Guyana Cup Fever one day horse race meet at the Port Mourant Turf Club on Sunday. In the process, the much loved animal made the Nand Persaud Racing Stables M richer.
Just like it did two weeks ago at the Kennard Memorial Turf Club, when the orders were for Golden Blue Echo to go out in front early in an attempt to tire those that went after him in the early stages of the race and then let stalemate Honey Flow take over and win, Golden Blue Echo again disregarded those orders to win on Sunday.
Eleven of the country’s fastest animals were out of the starting gate in an even brake and with long strides firing at all guns leaving the dust behind, Just Call Me Boss took the initial lead with Princess She Is Not in an attempt to complete a triple peat at the track moving alongside.
As they got into the second turn of the race which was one lap and one furlong (9 furlongs) Honey Flaw took over the lead forcing Golden Blue Echo to challenge with Princess She Is Not, Jack In My Style, Just Call Me Boss, Keep On Swinging, Climate Change, Spit Fire, Goodwill Boy, Brave Sky and Lady Budapest all following closely.
As the animals hit the half way stage Princess She Is Not, Golden Blue Echo and Just Call Me Boss were locked together at the top.
Into the final turn they came and Just Call Me Boss kept its noise ahead of the rest with both Princess She Is Not and Golden Blue Echo challenging strongly.
Spit Fire made a late come from behind on the inside as the animals got onto the home stretch. The crowd then went into a frenzy as Golden Blue Echo started to pull away. However on the inside, Spit Fire continued to gain grounds so too did Goodwill Boy but the teenage Jockey, Julius ensured that Golden Blue Echo made the stable proud again.
After a stewards’ enquiry it was decided that the second place went jointly to Spit Fire and Goodwill Boy while Jack in My Style was fourth.
The Nand Persaud Stables also had Brave Sky in the race while Jumbo Jet had Jack In My Style and Keep On Swinging. The other stable with more than one horse in the race was Kris Jagdeo racing Stables with Goodwill Boy and Just Call Me Boss.
The winning purse was $1M and the Banks DIH Trophy. The second prize was worth $500,000.
Meanwhile, Fire Line of the Sheriff Racing Stables with Jockey Richmond in charge won the 4-year-old West Indian bread event. The second race went to Got To Go ahead of Chelsea and T&T.
The 3-year-old Guyana bread race was taken by Mischievous Maker of the Sheriff Racing Stables and ridden by Jockey R. Drepaul. The second finisher was Marry Ann coming in before Miss Anjanie and Seven Dust.
The Trinidadian Jockey R. Hashanah piloted It’s My Choice of the Jumbo Jet Racing Stables to win the E3 and lower event. Second was Golden Blue Echo finishing ahead of Red and Lovely and Release The Beast.
Fifteen horses took the starting gate for the L Class race which had a top prize of $130,000. It was won by Lil Dude of the K. Jagdeo Racing Stables. She’s In Control came second ahead of Red Region and Confusion.
The H and Lower race which had a top prize of $275,000 was won by Mid- Blue with Campador, Cat Massiah and It’s My Turn rounding out the top finishers. The other horses in the race were Jumbo Gift, Appealing Harvest, Quiet Dancer, Amazing Run, Bird Man and Bridle Stone Corner.
The day’s proceedings came to an end with Miss Olympic of the L. Singh Stables winning the J2, K and L Classes race. Second was Red Region with Awesome Cash and Red Jet completing the winners.
The top stable was the Sheriff Racing Stables.
