Good Hope residents on the Essequibo Coast in Region Two are requesting that their area receive electrification. This was discovered during a walkabout conducted by Region Two Chairman Devanand Ramdatt and Councillor Arnold Adams, Deputy Chairman of the Good Hope/Pomona Neighbourhood Democratic Council.
During that walkabout, residents expressed concerns regarding the lack of electricity. It was reported that over 50 families are without electrification. Many residents expressed dissatisfaction at the cost to operate standby generators, particularly at a time when the economy is struggling.
Residents related finding it very expensive to use a generator, but it is the only alternative they have.
Other areas that require attention are the lack of medical supplies at Suddie Public Hospital, poor drainage, and deteriorating roads.
The Regional Chairman and Councillor also met with workers of the Community Infrastructure Improvement Programme, who complained about the regional officials’ delay in signing off their payments, a situation that has led to them not being paid for April.
Residents were encouraged to send their children to school, since it was evident that a number of school-aged children were not at school.
The Regional Chairman has said that at the next statutory meeting of the Regional Democratic Council, scheduled for next Tuesday, he would further examine the matters raised by residents.
