At the meeting, Jagdeo spoke of opportunities in Guyana, the framework of development being pursued by the People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) Administration, the Government’s plans for growth and development, and incentive regimes.
He reiterated the PPP/C Government’s commitment to work with all Guyanese companies to ensure that they were positioned to take advantage of the emerging opportunities as Guyana progressed. The meeting comes ahead of a visit from a Ghanaian Private Sector delegation.
Discussions also focused on opportunities that can be capitalised on by Guyanese businesses.

Joining Vice President Jagdeo at the meeting were Foreign Affairs and International Development Minister Hugh Todd; Tourism, Industry, and Commerce Minister Oneidge Walrond and Chief Investment Officer/Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Guyana Office for Investment (GO-Invest), Peter Ramsaroop.
Earlier in the year, President Dr Irfaan Ali stated that as a result of Government’s investments, a stream of opportunities has already been created for Guyanese across all sections of society.

“These investments create a string of opportunities for different layers in our society. That is why these expenditures are so critical in not only opening up of opportunities but creating immediate benefits,” he explained.
In fact, the President, during his Independence Day address, stated that with its growing petroleum industry and other lucrative productive sectors, opportunities for growth and development of all Guyanese were imminent.
“We fought for independence to give our people the quality of life of which they had been deprived. If independence is to have any real meaning, it is to uplift our people from the ravages of limitations of the past and to give them a better life with better opportunities under better circumstances,” the Head of State had related.
Every person in the local society, according to the President, now has real economic opportunities to grow and develop, and to contribute to the enlargement of national wealth.
“We cannot be a nation that produces oil and gas, earning considerable sums from it without passing on the benefits to all sectors of our society,” President Ali reiterated.
