Govt establishes coordination team for overseeing, advancing regularisation exercise

The Government of Guyana on Friday established a coordination team responsible for overseeing and advancing all aspects of the regularisation exercise. This committee was derived from a specially convened meeting by Attorney General (AG), Anil Nandlall and Labour and Manpower Planning Minister, Keoma Griffith with the aim of resolving land regularisation matters raised during the recent presidential outreaches across Guyana. The meeting included representatives and technical officers from the Labour and Manpower Planning Ministry, the Legal Affairs Ministry and Central Housing and Planning Authority (CHPA). The team was tasked with facilitating the issuance of transports or certificates of title, as applicable, to persons legitimately occupying lands within the affected communities, including, co-operative societies or former co-operative societies.

However, regularisation has commenced in Devonshire Castle, Paradise, Jib, Westbury and Walton Hall on the Essequibo Coast and Friendship on the Pomeroon River; Melanie, Foulis and Vigilance on the East Coast of Demerara (ECD) and several villages in West Coast Berbice (WCB). In addition, efforts are also underway for several co-operative societies along the East Bank corridor, including those falling within Kuru Kururu, Hauraruni and Yarrowkabra. A clear roadmap and timeline have been established, with the relevant investigations expected to be concluded by the end of August, 2026. Public outreach will form an essential part of the process, ensuring that residents are properly informed about the regularisation exercise, the steps to be undertaken and their respective responsibilities. The Government will bear the costs in relation to these undertakings as it remains steadfast in its commitment to resolving outstanding land regularisation matters through a coordinated, transparent and timely process, thereby ensuring that affected residents obtain the legal recognition and documentation to which they are entitled.
