The Guyana Police Force (GPF), in continuing its outreach programme, met with residents of Paradise, West Coast Berbice (WCB) over the weekend.
The residents were given the opportunity to voice their concerns regarding issues affecting them, chief among which is noise nuisance.
The clamping down of noise nuisance is, however, being presently addressed by the Force, which recently trained 31 ranks to tackle the issue.
Previously, 50 were trained in the said area during a two-day session on Noise Management Training.
The Paradise residents were told of their rights and the best way forward in reporting and dealing with the issue.
Additionally, as part of the Force’s Crime Prevention Strategy, the team of police took the opportunity to share valuable crime prevention tips with the citizens.
The residents were reminded to always lock doors while in or out of the house, use other means available like an individual’s voice to identify who is at the door before opening it, and to immediately report suspicious activity to the nearest police station.
“If you see something, say something. Take time to familiarise yourself with building evacuation and fire safety plans, keep items such as chequebooks, wallets, cash, jewellery, etc out of plain sight. Secure them properly. Do not keep large amount of cash in homes or on person. Always be aware of the environment and to report any sighting of persons climbing over a fence to gain entry to property”, the ranks told the residents.
In addition to the tips, contact numbers for the Station Sergeant and the Officer-in-Charge of the Number 3 Sub-Division were provided to aid in faster and confidential passage of information.
The residents expressed satisfaction at seeing the police on foot visiting the communities and thanked them for sharing the crime tips.
In the meanwhile, On Thursday last, ranks of the Vreed-en-Hoop Police Station visited the Crane Housing Scheme where hampers were distributed to several elderly couples and single mothers of the community.
The team, led by Inspector Chandradatt Kooldeep along with Sergeant Deon Parris, Rural Sergeant Maxine Rose, Constables Brayan Fraser, David Abrams, Ulric Ceaser and Neighbourhood Police Donnette Brammer presented the hampers to Errol Noble, 84, and his wife Joycelyn Noble, 63, of Crane Squatting Area and Paulette Williams, 41, a single mother of six of Crane Old Road, West Coast Demerara (WCD).
The recipients of the hampers expressed thanks and appreciation for their hampers and urged the Police Force to continue to do their outstanding work.
The Crane Village is currently being used as a pilot project for “Team Policing” and thus far, much progress has been achieved since its commencement on April 15, 2019.
