The Guyana Police Force (GPF) on Tuesday donated several musical instruments to the E Division (Linden-Kwakwani) Scouts, which were valued a total of .5 million.

A similar donation is set to be made to the Scouts of G Division (Essequibo Coast and Islands) in the coming week.

Among the instruments donated are one bass drum, two snare drums, two trombones, one tenor saxophone, one alto saxophone, two Bb clarinets, two trumpets, two flutes along with accessories for the instruments such as cleaning kits, oil, straps, and sticks.

Handing over the instruments to the Scouts on Tuesday was Woman Assistant Commissioner of Police and Second-in-Command of the Force’s Administration, Maxine Graham, as well as Senior Superintendent Fizal Karimbaksh, who has direct responsibility for the Scouts in that division. The Director of Music, Superintendent Charmaine Stuart and several members of E Division Scout Group were also present at the occasion.

Speaking at the handing over ceremony, Assistant Commissioner Graham urged the Scouts to take care of the instruments and to make full use of equipment. The Woman Assistant Commissioner also indicated that training would be provided to the Scouts on a weekly basis, by ranks of the GPF Bandroom so that they could be fully “au fait” with how to use the instruments.

Moreover, Senior Superintendent Karimbaksh thanked the Force on behalf of the Scouts for the generous donation. Karimbaksh pointed out that this donation would assist in increasing the talent available within the Force. The Commander went on to say that this donation would eliminate the need for Scouts to travel long distances to perform at events given that skilled ranks would now be present at the Division in Linden.
