Senior officials of the Guyana Police Force (GPF) in their respective divisions, on February 16 and 18 toured several locations in their districts with the purpose of listening and addressing issues raised by citizens.
The first visit was hosted at Leonora and Zeeburg markets by D Division (West Bank Demerara-East Bank Essequibo) Commander, Senior Superintendent Edmond Cooper and his administrative team. During the outreach, several residents and business owners voiced their concerns for the need for more security, such as regular patrols in various areas of the community and the markets places.
Commander of A Division (Georgetown-East Bank Demerara), Assistant Commissioner Marlon Chapman along with his team of other senior Police officials visited several locations in Greater Georgetown, including Cross and Leopold Streets, Hadfield Street, Brickdam, Croal and Avenue of the Republic, during which similar concerns were raised.
The final visit was at Lima Sands, in Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam). The outreach was conducted by ‘G’ Division Commander, Senior Superintendent Khali Pareshram and his team of law-enforcement personnel.
During the meetings held at several locations, residents over-all called was for an increase in security measures, such as the increased presence of plain clothes Police ranks and patrols. They also raised concerns on noise nuisance, resuscitation of the Community Policing Group and regularisation of the areas so that the roads can be gazetted.
Persons within these locations were assured by the Commanders that regular outreaches will be done to address the matters so as to ensure citizens feel safe in their communities.
