GPF intensifies traffic enforcement against illegal parking, private-hire operations

In targeted enforcement exercises along Providence Public Road, East Bank Demerara (EBD), in the vicinity of Red Road on separate occasions, a total of 56 traffic cases were made. The exercise targeted drivers who were allegedly using vehicles for purposes other than those for which they were licensed, including private-hire operations. During the exercise, five cases were made for leaving a vehicle in a dangerous position; five for failure to produce a driver’s licence; seven for the prohibition of tinted motor vehicles; five for obscured identification marks (rear); six for failing to wear a seatbelt; and 14 cases each for using a vehicle for purposes other than those for which it was licensed and for breach of insurance.

As such, drivers were issued traffic tickets for ticketable offences, while the remaining matters were placed before the Diamond Magistrate’s Court and are pending determination. These exercises form part of an ongoing enforcement initiative aimed at addressing the practice of drivers stopping or parking along lanes of the four-lane roadway while soliciting passengers, which can obstruct the free flow of traffic and create difficulties for other road users. Traffic ranks will continue their enforcement and educational efforts to encourage compliance, improve driver behaviour, and promote safer roadways for everyone.
