GPF pursuing leads into land surveyor’s murder

The Guyana Police Force (GPF) said they are actively investigating leads in the robbery and murder of a surveyor attached to the Guyana Gold and Diamond Miners Association (GGDMA) that occurred on Sunday at Arimu Backdam in the Cuyuni riverine community of Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni).

The body of Ricky Ambrose, who has been a ranger for the past 20 years, was found by a 24-year-old miner who was heading from his work ground to their camp ground. The man claimed that he was walking along the Arimu trail when he observed a motionless body on the ground with multiple injuries. The body was about 20 feet from the ATV Ambrose was using at the time he met his demise.
An alarm was raised, and a report was subsequently made at the Bartica Police Station. Ranks immediately responded and commenced their journey to the area.

Dead: Ricky Ambrose

However, the axle of the ATV the ranks were travelling on broke and was eventually fixed, before the team was met with a creek that prevented them from crossing. They arrived on Monday at 6:00h. Upon arrival at the scene, the investigation was launched.
The body was escorted to Bartica Hospital.
The GGDMA has since lashed out at the GPF’s response efforts, claiming that the area where the incident occurred is not far from Bartica.
“The GGDMA would like to express its condolences to the family and friends of the late Ricky Ambrose, and calls on the authorities to have a proper investigation into this incident,” a GGDMA press release said.
Meanwhile, during an interview with the media on Tuesday, Crime Chief Wendell Blanhum said that they will continue to investigate the murder, and will provide any updated information when it becomes available. (G9)
