This tournament was launched at the Indigenous People’s Conference Hall last Friday at 18:30hrs. In attendance were representatives of several football clubs that would be taking part in this competition, including the GDF. Representatives of the RFA and GPF gave brief remarks at the launch.
On behalf of the RFA, President Rayan Farias spoke on how inspirational and brilliant the initiative is to Lethem and the Guyana Police Force.
Subordinate officer-in-charge of the GPF at Lethem, Sgt 20113 Connell, gave a brief overview of the activities to mark the 180th anniversary of the GPF, and emphasised that the rules of the various sports must be observed, as discipline is the hallmark of the GPF.
Superintendent King, who gave the feature address, charged all participants and members to give of their best in the tournament. He reminded that this initiative is not only because of the Force’s anniversary, but serves as the GPF’s continued will and desire to have a much closer relationship with all communities, villages and stakeholders, as a means of effectively fulfilling the Force’s motto of ‘service and protection’.
