…Minister calls emergency press conference

The Accident and Emergency Department of the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) is currently on lockdown following the death of a woman who displayed flu-like symptoms, similar to that of the coronavirus.

The now dead woman recently travelled to Guyana from New York.

While the cause of the woman’s death is currently unknown, tests are being conducted to determine if she had the coronavirus.

Guyana Times was told that the woman arrived at the GPHC last night and died early this morning.

Public Health Minister Volda Lawrence has called an emergency press conference to brief the media on the country’s preparations to deal with the coronavirus, which has been declared a global health emergency.
