Home News GPHC to offer counselling for burn patients
The Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) has announced that it will be offering counselling sessions to burn patients to assist them with their healing process.
These sessions are expected to help with the patients’ journey to deal with their scars.
Guyana Times understands that this idea was conceived after several complaints by patients in the Burns Care Unit (BCU) of the hospital about their physical appearance while going through therapy.
The patients to receive counselling are between the ages of 20 and 40 and who would have suffered third-degree burns about their body. In addition, they are victims that were attacked by their former lovers.
Meanwhile, counselling is expected to be done by senior workers who have experience of working with burn victims and know what these patients are going through.
The counselling session is expected to begin on Monday and will be for one hour on a daily basis.
However, just recently, the city hospital announced that nurses attached to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) Psychiatric ward will be undergoing continuous training to ensure they are always prepared to deal with all patients.
