GPL employee dies after crashing into parked truck
A young man attached to the Guyana Power and Light (GPL) lost his life Tuesday evening after he reportedly crashed the motorcycle he was riding into a parked truck along the Reliance Public Road, Essequibo Coast.
Dead is 22-year-old Akeem James of Lot 3 Golden Fleece Village on the Essequibo Coast, Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam).
Based on information received, the now dead man was proceeding south along the roadway when he reportedly lost control of the motorcycle and crashed into the lorry, which was facing the opposite direction.
He sustained severe injuries to his face and other parts of his body. Guyana Times understands that he was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident. The helmet was reportedly recovered strapped to the handle of the mangled motorcycle.
The young man was picked up and taken to the Suddie Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Calvin James, the father of the now dead man, who was in tears, told Guyana Times that he last saw his son alive on Tuesday afternoon when he left home with some friends. They were reportedly heading to a lime a short distance away.
The distressed father stated that he was at home when he received the devastating news. He noted that by the time he rushed to the scene, his son had already been taken to the Suddie Hospital where doctors pronounced him dead.
He noted that his son had a “gash” to his forehead. He also confirmed that he was told after the impact, his son was tossed into the air and landed some distance away.
The young man leaves to mourn his parents and two siblings.
