GPOC releases new locally themed postage stamps: “Bauxite Centennial 1916-2016”

The Guyana Post Office Corporation (GPOC), in collaboration with the Bauxite Centennial Committee, unveiled four new commemorative postage stamps on October 27, 2016, at the Three Friends Mine, Region 10 (Upper Demerara-Berbice). stamp
The stamps were released in observance of bauxite’s Centennial Anniversary. Stamps are available in $80, $140, $150 and $180 denominations at Post Offices countrywide.
Commemorative stamps are the perfect memorabilia to celebrate an anniversary or significant event. Such stamps are circulated both locally and internationally. Stamps also attract the interest of philatelists who purchase, sell and store them as prized collectables, a Government Information Agency (GINA) release stated.
Bauxite mining commenced in Linden (Mackenzie) in October 1916. GPOC congratulates the stewards of the Guyana Bauxite Industry on its centennial anniversary.
