Chief Fire Officer Gregory Wickham has confirmed that the fire which started at the Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA) head office on Camp Street, on Wednesday was electrical.
He further disclosed that there was no major damage caused to the building except some electrical appliances that were destroyed. He did not divulge any additional information.
The Guyana Fire Service (GFS) was summoned to the scene at about 14:00h on the day in question after a fire alarm went off in the management department.
Staff quickly followed evacuation protocols, leaving the building in an orderly manner. Firefighters arrived on the scene swiftly and efficiently managed to contain and extinguish the fire.
There were no injuries reported and GRA had resumed operation on Thursday following a safety inspection. GRA’s head office is a 6-storey building, which houses some 700 staff members.
