Visitors can journey through the jungles towards spectacular waterfalls, where they can unwind in the most relaxing way, surrounded by calming nature and majestic mountains – guaranteeing a feeling of pure bliss.
As many as four scenic waterfalls can be visited during a getaway to Kopinang, all of which are accessible by a cool jungle trek, mountain hike, or thrilling ATV ride.
While visitors usually opt to visit the Kopinang Falls and Wailang Palu Falls, they can also get the opportunity to splash around at Orinduik Falls and Kamana Falls.
Apart from immersing oneself in the refreshing waterfalls, visitors can also learn to make kasiri – an alcoholic beverage made from cassava – and engage in birdwatching and other wildlife spotting.
Visitors can also indulge in mouthwatering meals, including the famous tuma – a signature Indigenous meat dish. The local cooks are also skilled at preparing traditional Guyanese meals such as cook-up rice, fried rice, and chowmein.
The current guest house has six rooms, and there is a communal bathroom, but as the village is seeing an increase in its tourism potential, efforts are underway to construct another accommodation facility with six self-contained rooms.
Elbert Thomas, 27, was born and raised in the village, and has been a tour guide for about a year. He enjoys showcasing to visitors the magnificent views and history of his beloved community of approximately 700 residents.

He explained that Kopinang became known as a tourism destination sometime in 2011, when a tour operator started to bring guests into the village. However, that venture was short-lived, but in 2023, another tour operator started to market the village as a tourist hotspot, and
guests have since been routinely visiting the hinterland community for the perfect escape from the bustling city life.
According to Thomas, the village gets visitors all year round, depending on weather conditions.
Kopinang is home to the Patamona, one of the nine Amerindian nations living in Guyana. The Kopinang Mountain takes up most of the background of the village. It showcases some of the highest peaks in Guyana, some reaching up to 6,000ft.
“Kopinang is a beautiful village, with lovely people. Your experience here will be one of a kind,” the tour guide has guaranteed.
