The ITTF Latin American Development Officer, Ramon Ortega Montes indicated that there is much work to be done in raising the level and standard of coaching and by extension the sport that while painstaking it is critical to develop coaches with the right attributes and attitudes and technical capacities.
The coaches who participated in the level one course will have 30 prerequisite hours to do before receiving final certification. Mark Evans, Maurice Cummings, Kunta Weeks, Ron Enniss all received full marks for the practical side of the course. The coaches will add to the pool of coaches already certified to the development of the sport in Guyana.
The programme places Guyana in a position to establish a coach certification structure with the ability to host self-funded programmes that may significantly add to school programmes.
The course which was held from November 17 to 23, also attracted participation from Dwayne Gibson, Miguel Wong, Warren Hackshaw (Guyana Fire Service), Devon Richmond (Guyana Defence Force), Rafael Hunter (Jawala, Region 7), Mark Evans, Deon Dick, Kunta Weekes, Paul Jones, Leneisha Persaud, Ron Ennis and Michale Kellman.
