Grimmond optimistic about team’s future

After two disappointing performance in their most recent encounters of the Jaguars Franchise League, coach of the Upper Demerara/ East Bank team Clive Grimmond is optimistic his team will respond in their upcoming matches positively.

According to Grimmond a more positive approach in his team future matches will bring the result he is looking for from his unit. “Besides our three academy players Steven Jacobs, Tevin Imlach and Sherfane Rutherford, we have a young unit who is new to three day cricket and as such they are yet to adapt to this longer format. However, there will be a more responsible and patient approach from us (the team) in future matches and that will bring us the result we are looking for.”

That approach, Grimmond believes has already begun to show itself judging from his team batting performance in the last innings of their clash against Lower Corentyne, where Sherfane Rutherford was spectacular with a century on a pitch that was difficult to bat on.

The coach labelled his team recent performance as naturally poor and blame the batting department which was not good enough for such display. “Our losses were due to naturally poor performances and our batting was very dismal”, the coach pointed out.

The Upper Demerara/East Bank team’s campaign in the League was off to a good start as they won first innings advantage against Georgetown. However, since that game they have lost momentum and during that period they lost by more than a hundred runs to West Demerara, then suffered an innings defeat to Lower Corentyne. Their other game was abandoned due to wet Everest Cricket Club ground.

There are three more games remaining for East Bank and they must rebound to end on a positive note. This, according to Grimmond, could only be achieved if their batsmen stay at the crease for long periods since the bowling department is already intact.

The Upper Demerara/East Bank team next assignment starts Friday against Upper Corentyne at the Enmore Community Development Centre Ground, once their batting department produce a substantial effort then it could be a very competitive encounter between the two sides that are in the cellar positions on the points standings.
