Gross mismanagement of NRM reported during visit by new Minister
The new Natural Resources Minister, Vickram Bharrat was on Thursday presented with a grim report from the various agencies within the Ministry which points to gross mismanagement of the sector under the previous Administration.
During the meeting with Heads of the various agencies under the purview of the Natural Resources Ministry (NRM), the Minister was informed that the Guyana Forestry Commission (GFC) was presently unable to pay salaries for July to its staff and owed millions of dollars to the utility companies.
As such, the Minister suggested major restructuring at the various agencies to ensure that they function in a more effective manner.
At the meeting were Permanent Secretary Joslyn McKenzie; Guyana Geology and Mines Commission (GGMC) Commissioner Newell Dennison; acting GFC Commissioner Gavin Agard and Guyana Gold Board (GGB) General Manager Eondrene Thompson.
The brief meeting was held at the Ministry’s Duke Street, Kingston office. The Minister is expected to meet with the management team and staff of these agencies shortly.
