A man, who claimed that he accompanied a friend to sell a stolen cellphone was on Tuesday charged with simple larceny and appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
Stanley George, 32, of Lot 103 Grove, East Bank Demerara (EBD) denied that he stole a Samsung cellphone valued $32,000 on April 13 from Tiffany Duncan.
Reports are Duncan was attacked by two men and robbed of the cellphone.
In court on Tuesday, George claimed that he was not the person that stole the phone but rather he merely accompanied his friend to sell it.
Police Prosecutor Devon Goodman asked that substantial bail be set and requested three weeks to arrest the second suspect in the matter.
Magistrate Annette Singh released George on $25,000 bail.
He is expected to return to court on May 24.
