A two-day training session on improved Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) was held on Friday and Saturday by the Guyana Responsible Parenthood Association (GRPA) through support from the Pan American Health Organisation/World Health Organisation (PAHO/WHO)
Some 20 young persons from Regions One (Barima-Waini), Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam), Three (Essequibo Islands-West Demerara), Four (Demerara-Mahaica), Five (Mahaica-Berbice), Six (East Berbice-Corentyne), and Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni) were trained.
The session was aimed at addressing the need for improved SRH service provision for vulnerable groups during the COVID-19 pandemic in Guyana.
Subsequent training is scheduled for September 11 & 12 for 10 young persons from Regions Eight (Potaro-Siparuni), Nine (Upper Takutu-Upper Essequibo), and 10 (Upper Demerara-Berbice) in Linden, Region 10.
The training forms part of the WHO CSO COVID-19 project that GRPA is implementing with life-saving SRH services and care packages being provided to women, youth, adolescent mothers, and other vulnerable groups.
Additionally, GRPA also presented a final report of a qualitative assessment on access to SRH services by vulnerable groups during the COVID-19 pandemic in Guyana. The purpose of the research was to assess the experiences of youth, women, and other vulnerable groups when accessing HIV, contraceptives, and other SRH services during the COVID-19 pandemic in Guyana.
