GSA, Banks DIH wrap up successful championships

Mary Fung-A-Fat and Alex Arjoon emerged as champs of their respective categories, following the end of a highly-competitive Guyana Squash Association (GSA)/Rainforest Waters Senior National Championships.
The near week-long competition, which culminated Sunday at the Georgetown Club Courts, saw intense battles and old rivalries being renewed as Fernandes and Arjoon did well to outplay some stiff competition. A sold-out, hyped crowd threw their support behind the women during their finals.
Fernandes did well throughout the tournament, but bowed out honourably; losing four sets 15-17, 13-11, 12-10, 11-8 to Mary Fung-A-Fat. The Championships’ final bout saw the battle of the masters as Arjoon and the veteran Richard Chin exhibited their class on the court. Arjoon in the end did well to keep Chin quiet, prevailing though battle-scarred after four sets: 11-7, 8-11, 11-7, 11-4.
Among other top performers in the finals were Jason Khalil, Jonathan Antczak, Shomari Wiltshire, and others. Meanwhile, the 2018 Championships were sponsored by Banks DIH via its Rainforest Waters brand.
