Home News GT man nabbed with illegal gun, ammo at Mabura
An Alberttown, Georgetown, resident was on Tuesday afternoon arrested at Mabura Police Check Point, Region 10 (Upper Demerara-Berbice) after he was found to be in possession of an unlicensed .32 Taurus semi-automatic Pistol with 12 live matching rounds.
The 40-year-old man was reportedly in a motor vehicle when it was stopped and searched by Police ranks at the check point. He is expected to make his court appearance by the end of the week.
Only recently, the Police stated that a total of 55 illegal firearms were taken off the streets up to the end May, when compared to 64 for the corresponding period last year.
The majority of guns seized were pistols – 33 in total. Most of them – 27 – were reportedly confiscated by ranks in A Division (Georgetown-East Bank Demerara).
