GTA launches tours to boost unique tourism products in Guyana

The Guyana Tourism Authority on Friday launched three experimental tourism products aimed at boosting unique tourism attractions in the country.
The three new experimental products are a seven-curry, the Moraikabai and the Wakapau tours. The initiative seeks to develop new experiential tourism offerings to visitors.

President of the Tourism and Hospitality Association of Guyana (THAG), Mitra Ramkumar, addressing the gathering on Tuesday

During the launch, Minister of Tourism, Oneidge Walrond commended the Tourism Authority for the initiative, since she believes that destination Discover Guyana is indeed a very diverse product.
“I continue to advocate that wherever in Guyana someone visits, they should have a remarkable and satisfying experience, because Guyana is absolutely beautiful, beyond Kaieteur, Georgetown, and other popular destinations. There is much more to see…”, she said.
The new initiatives are all-day tours that fit perfectly into the schedule of busy families. According to the Minister, this initiative supports the Government’s policies in place for tourism.

“The Ministry has already initiated plans for greater interest by locals and diaspora travellers in Guyana. We want to see people taking more vacations locally, to experience the beauty of our country. Further, we intend to continue working those communities interested in developing their community base and develop tourism,” she said.
The GTA has been working assiduously with Indigenous communities to develop and package their unique attractions. Visitors who are looking to travel and experience a combination of nature and culture will now be able to expect revamped initiatives.
Meanwhile, President of the Tourism Hospitality Association of Guyana (THAG) Mitra Ramkumar said building products are essential to the development of any destination.
“These are experiences here that you can have and they are authentic, and they are what the villagers do naturally. They don’t have to amend or polish it, there is no need to do that. What is needed is preservation of culture, the way you do it is the way we like it.”
GTA said they are ready to get Guyana’s tourism sector back up and running, as they embrace their theme for these tours “Recover, Rebuild, Getting Ready to Bounce Back”.
