GTT extends grace period for bill payments

COVID-19

The Guyana Telephone and Telegraph Company (GTT) on Wednesday announced that it has extended its bill payment period as a precautionary measure to assist in the fight against the coronavirus (COVID-19).
The company, in a release, has said that all bills that are scheduled to be paid on the 1st of the month from the month of April would become due on the 17th of every month.
Meanwhile, GTT Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Justin Nedd has said the company would also be recruiting more Mobile Money agents to add to the existing stock of agents.
“As an alternative, we have over 230 MMG agents nationwide, which customers like you take advantage of each month to pay their bills. Many of these agents are right close to where you live and work. We also have over 45,000 MMG customers who can make payments on your behalf. Some of them might be your close friends or family”, the company has said.
With the safety of its employees and customers in mind, the company has said, it has moved to secure new and additional points-of- payment for ease of access.
“To reduce the chance of community spread, stores will be open for a shorter time, will have less staff, and a limited number of customers will be allowed in each location at a time”, the company announced.
Customers are also encouraged to make use of the Mobile Money platform for the payment of their GTT and other bills.
“We appreciate your need, more than ever, to remain connected. As such, starting next month, customers have until the 17th of the month to ensure bill payments,” Mr. Nedd has said.
GTT has also decided to reduce the opening hours at its retail outlets. As of now, all of its retail outlets will operate from 8:00hrs to 13:00hrs on weekdays.
The company is encouraging persons with difficulties to contact the GTT’s tech support through its chat service and helplines. The LiveChat feature has been extended to 23:00h.
