Female students from several secondary schools across Guyana were exposed to the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) operations of GTT during a tour of the company’s facilities last Thursday, as part of the “Girls in ICT Day” observance.
The tour initiative was done in collaboration with the National Data Management Authority (NDMA) of the Public Telecommunication Ministry and was focused on highlighting the many career possibilities that are available in the ICT field.
The girls were also shown, in a relatable and hands on way, the process it takes to get the telecommunication technology to customers’ homes and handsets.
GTT’s Public Relations Officer, Allison Parker encouraged the girls to “be at the forefront of those who join in contributing and development of the ICT sector”.
At the end of the tour, several of the girls expressed keen interest in eventually being part of the industry.
GTT previously partnered with the National Frequency Management Unit, to observe “Girls ICT Day”, an initiative of the International Telecommunication Union, “Which aims to empower and encourage girls and young women to consider careers in the growing STEM/ICT sector”.
