A 39-year-old guard from La Penitence, Georgetown, was arrested after allegedly discharging a loaded firearm on Thursday along the Sparendaam Access Road, East Coast Demerara (ECD).
Police stated that the ranks were conducting an operation in the Sparendaam/Plaisance Railway Embankment area when they observed the suspect allegedly pointing a firearm into the air and discharging a round.
Upon seeing this, he was approached, and a search of his person led to the discovery of a 9mm pistol along with a magazine containing 11 live rounds of matching ammunition.
Police stated that a firearm licence and precept were subsequently produced, which were examined and confirmed to correspond with the firearm.
Nevertheless, he was taken to the Sparendaam Police Station, where he was placed in custody as investigations continue.
