Guard arrested for discharging shotgun

An armed guard attached to the North West Security Service is now in custody after he accidentally discharged a round from his 12-guage shotgun on Wednesday.
According to reports, the security guard was on duty at the Moon Supermarket at La Bonne Intention, East Coast Demerara when, at about 09:00h, the round was accidentally discharged.
Police say that, acting upon information received, they visited the supermarket and questioned the guard. According to the Police, the guard claimed that he had accidentally discharged a round from his shotgun, and after the incident, he made contact with the Chief Security Officer of the company and informed him of what had occurred. He claimed that his supervisor went to the location and collected the cartridge casing and left.
He was nonetheless taken into custody, and is detained at the Beterverwagting Police Station.
Meanwhile, at about 16:00h on Wednesday, the supervisor was summoned to the station, where he handed over one cartridge casing. He also was warned to provide all relevant documents pertaining to the said firearm.
Police say no one was injured by the discharged round. Investigations are in progress. (G15)
