Home News Guard slapped with attempted murder charge
A security guard was on Thursday hauled before the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts on an indictable offence of attempting to commit murder.
Rondell Mitchell was arraigned before Principal Magistrate Judy Latchman.
The 30-year-old man of Friendship, East Bank Demerara, is accused of attempting to kill Sherwin Anderson on October 28, 2018, while he was in the vicinity of the Meadow Bank fishery wharf.
The court heard that Mitchell discharged a loaded firearm at Anderson with intent to murder him, in the presence of Oquacy Harvey and Romario Nurse.
Police Prosecutor Quinn Harris informed the court that on October 28 at about 09:30h, Anderson was at the fishery wharf when the accused allegedly took his mobile phone and flashed a picture of him.
This annoyed him, and a heated argument ensured between the two. Mitchell then armed himself with a 9mm pistol and shot the victim in his abdomen. The two other men were in the vicinity when the man was shot.
The injured Anderson was picked up and rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he underwent an emergency surgery.
After listing to the prosecution’s submission, Mitchell was remanded to prison and the case was adjourned to November 28.
