Gun-toting bandits rob Laing Avenue man

…escape with jewellery

At about 20:15h on Friday last, Laing Avenue Georgetown resident Desmond Gordon was crossing the West Ruimveldt bridge between Front Road and Laing Avenue when two masked men armed with handguns confronted him from the opposite direction and relieved him of three gold chains valued $210,000 and two gold rings valued $70,000.
The 52-year-old a vendor said he was wearing his jewellery on Friday evening as he proceeded north in the direction of downtown Georgetown when the bandits approached him from the opposite direction, and both men pulled out handguns from their front pants waist. They held him at gunpoint, and one of them relieved him of his jewellery.
Both perpetrators then made good their escape in a southerly direction, joining a silver coloured Toyota Spacio motorcar which had no number plate as it sped away in a westerly direction.
The matter was reported to the Police, and persons in the area were questioned, but no useful information was received.
The area was also checked for CCTV cameras, but none seen. Nevertheless, investigations are in progress.
