…escapes with over $150,000 in valuables
Police are investigating an alleged robbery under arms committed on Tuesday on a 49-year-old dental surgeon attached to the Public Health Ministry, resulting in the loss of cash, mobile phones and other valuables.
The victim has been identified as Debra Skeete of Jasmine Avenue, Eccles Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara (EBD). According to Police information, the incident occurred at around 10:45h.
Skeete reportedly left her place of work at 10:00h in her motor car and went to Republic Bank, Diamond Branch ATM machine, where she deposited some cash.
The woman reportedly then travelled to the Bounty Supermarket in Grove, EBD and made purchases. Thereafter, Skeete drove to Eccles and parked on the bridge in front her home.
It was then that she observed an unmasked male approaching her with a gun tucked in his waist. The perpetrator reportedly walked up to the victim driver’s side door and demanded that she hand over her hand bag.
Upon seeing that the woman was hesitating, the suspect whipped out his gun, opened the car door, snatched her bag containing $25,000 cash, one iPhone valued at $40,000, one Samsung Galaxy phone valued at $35,000, bank cards, one flash drive value $7420, one identification card and NIS card. Inside her bag, also, was 60 pound sterling (equivalent to $80,000 Guyana currency).
The bandit then ran to a waiting motorcycle driven by an accomplice. The duo then made good their escape in an eastern direction. The area was reportedly checked, persons questioned and thus far, no useful information has been received.
