Gunmen invade birthday party, cart off $11M in cash & other items
Several businessmen who were attending a birthday party at a house in Fourth Street, La Bonne Intention (LBI), East Coast Demerara on Wednesday were robbed of millions in cash and other items by gunmen who reportedly invaded the property, held the men at gunpoint, and confiscated their valuables.
The Police have said that Michael Kunjbehari, 36, of Fourth Street, Turkeyen, Georgetown, was robbed of two laptops and $1.2 million in cash. Robin Satrohan, 32, of Cummings Lodge, Greater Georgetown, was robbed of $500,000 cash and a Samsung Galaxy S10 phone. Ryan Jahurali, 30, of Great Diamond, East Bank Demerara, was robbed of a Samsung Note20 Ultra and $200,000 cash. Everton Singh-Lammy, 36, of Kitty, Georgetown, was robbed of a gold ring, a Samsung Note20 Ultra, and $170,000 cash. John Ali of Prashad Nagar, Georgetown was relieved of a black strap bag, one diamond ring, one white gold chain, one Samsung22 Ultra cell phone, and $1.5 million in cash. Mario Joseph, 31, of Well Road, Ogle ECD, was robbed of $50,000 cash. Ramsammy (only name), a 27-year-old Canadian citizen, was robbed of a gold chain, one gold ring, a red wallet containing a Canadian driver’s licence, an ID Card, his bank card, and $63,000 in cash. And Anthony Joseph, 32, of Fourth Street, Alexander Village, Georgetown, was robbed of an iPhone13.
Based on reports received, the victims, along with five other friends, were at the party when four identifiable men armed with guns entered the house through a back door that was not locked, committed the robbery, and made good their escape in a waiting motor car.
The matter was reported to the Police, and a party of Police ranks visited the scene. Upon tracking his phone, one of the victims led Police to an abandoned house in Plum Park, Sophia, Greater Georgetown, where a red Digicel bag that contained two laptops belonging to Kunjbehari, one Samsung S10 cell phone belonging to Satrohan, a Samsung Note20 Ultra phone belonging to Lammy, and an iPhone 13 belonging to Joseph, along with an ID card, was found.
Meanwhile, acting on information received, ranks from the Vigilance Police Station went to a house in North Melanie, ECD and apprehended three men, who were taken to the BV Police Station, where they were questioned in connection with the robbery after being positively identified by the victims.
Investigations are ongoing.
