Moments after entering his yard at Land of Canaan, East Bank Demerara (EBD), a 78-year-old man was on Friday evening held at gunpoint by two armed masked men who subsequently terrorised and robbed him of several items, including his Honda CRV motor vehicle.

Reports are Hardial Dass of Lot 142 Canaan Garden, EBD, had just returned from an ATM at a Diamond, EBD bank and as he exited his vehicle, two-armed men confronted him and held him at gunpoint.
The bandits then took him into the house, tied him up with his belt and proceeded to ransack the house.
They reportedly carted off a quantity of groceries, several bottles of liquor, two blue suitcases, a 42 inch flat screen television, $70,000 that the man withdrew from the bank and his passport.
The gunmen then made good their escape in the man’s Silver-Grey Honda CRV motor vehicle bearing registration number PSS 1375.
After the bandits left, Dass managed to untie himself and raised an alarm. The Police responded at based on investigations, the CRV was found abandoned at the Soesdyke/Linden Highway junction.
It was taken to the Timehri Police Station as Police continue their investigations. When Guyana Times visited the area on Saturday, the house was locked.
A security guard attached to the gated community told this publication that the elderly man only moved into the area about a year ago. He is reportedly a re-migrant, who returned to Guyana to live. According to the security guard, the man suffered injuries about his body due to the beating he received in the hands of the perpetrators.
Guyana Times understands the guard on duty on Friday evening had left his post to purchase a beverage and it was during this time, the gunmen carried out the attack. From reports gathered, the bandits might have been hiding in the bushy area and as the pensioner returned home, they execute the robbery. The Police have since questioned the security officer in connection with the robbery.
Earlier in the week, a pensioner was accosted and relieved of his pension money at Vryheid’s Lust, East Coast Demerara. However, the quick response of Police ranks led to the arrest of the two perpetrators.
